FRUSTRATION
it has been a bad week, one of frayed tempers, ruffled feathers and with anger and frustration spiralling out of control. my latest 'revelation' today capped it all superbly, like shitty icing on the worst bloody cake ever.
i requested Umich to send my I-20 documents for visa application via UPS express courier service on 17 May. so technically, the parcel's journey began on 17 May. According to UPS online tracking system, it reached singapore on 19 May. so far so good.
on the morning of 20 May, UPS made their first delivery attempt. apparently no one was home. in actual fact, both my mom and i were in.
UPS attempted a second delivery on the evening of 22 May. everyone was at home but none of us heard the doorbell. now, UPS indicated on the tracking site that the delivery guy was waved away and they had to reconfirm the receiver's name.
completely puzzled, i emailed Umich about the setbacks last thursday. they replied today, after the weekend break, and told me to contact UPS. i duly contacted UPS to reconfirm my details. however, i still saw no errors in their delivery info.
i had to find out the cause of this entire episode so i called home to interrogate my mom. here's the moment of truth. on 22 May, while my mom was doing the dishes, she noticed a man with a parcel at the door. thinking that he was a salesman, she then WAVED HIM OFF. can you imagine how presumptious and ignorant she was/is? we hadn't been talking because of a big fight we had a few days back. and now, i'm only gonna receive my package that i paid for today, twelve days after it left michigan as opposed to the five business day delivery policy. in case, you're mathematically-challenged, let me do the calculations and spell it out for you: that's freaking twice the time!!!
ziyang says it's down to bad luck. but i can't ignore the fact that my mom's ignorance and stubbornness was the cause of the second delay.
i just can't begin to describe how frustrated i am. it's been a week of being pissed off. any more, and i might end up in IMH anger management.
